WEEE DIRECTIVE / RECYCLING

Advice On Recycling Your Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) & integrated Batteries*

Why are we involved?

To make sure that there are good facilities to take back old electrical products, Panasonic has helped to fund the ‘Distributor Take Back Scheme’.  Through membership of this scheme, we have paid toward the provision of improved recycling facilities for the benefit of the general public across the UK.

  • To ensure good use is made of the materials that make up old electrical equipment by recycling them rather than disposing them in landfill.
  • To prevent the negative environmental effects of sending often hazardous electrical equipment to landfill.

How does this work in practice?

  • You can take any old electrical equipment to participating civic amenity sites (often known as ‘Household Waste Recycling Centres’) run by your local council.
  • Funding collected through the Distributor Take Back Scheme has been distributed between all Local Authorities in the UK to ensure the provision of improved recycling facilities.
  • Panasonic provides further financing for the onward transportation, treatment and recycling of waste electrical products returned to such authorised collection points.

To achieve this Panasonic helped to found the recycling scheme called REPIC - now known as Ecogenesys. Ecogenesys ensures that the waste electrical products that it collects are correctly recycled and do not end up being exported as waste.

*non-integrated batteries can often be recycled at Household Waste Recycling Centres and other locations, but we can also accept these back at our Head Office. Please email shopkeeper@eu.panasonic.com for information
